It is a prime example of top-class Ford engineering and technology, as we discovered during a recent media test drive in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

While the 2.2-litre Duratorq four-cylinder diesel engine has plenty of grunt with 160PS and 385Nm of torque, the 3.2-litre Duratorq five-cylinder diesel engine provides more heavy-duty performance with 200PS and 470Nm of torque.

Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Offered in rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, the new Everest embodies Ford’s fun-to-drive DNA with rewarding and dynamic on-road handling.

It has a robust front end with signature LED daytime running lights and wide stance.

Interior features include more than 30 cleverly designed stowage spaces, multiple power outlets and fold-flat second- and first-in-class power-fold third-row seating.

To ensure exceptional cabin quietness, the new Everest has Active Noise Cancellation in addition to optimised cabin sealing and efficient use of sound absorbing materials.

Concerning its off-road capabilities, the new Everest has an intelligent four-wheel drive system, an active transfer case with Torque on Demand, Terrain Management System, a best-in-class water-wading capability of 800mm, 225mm of ground clearance, and aggressive approach and departure angles to help drivers navigate difficult terrain.

For extreme off-road environments, drivers can manually lock the transfer case in low-range four-wheel drive mode for increased control.

Meanwhile, voice command of the Everest’s infotainment system is offered via Ford’s in-car connectivity solution, SYNC 2 which can control the car’s entertainment system, climate controls and connected mobile devices.

SYNC 2 also boasts an eight-inch touchscreen.

The entertainment system features a first-in-class 10-speaker sound system with an integrated subwoofer.
Another segment-first technology in the new Everest is Curve Control, designed to help drivers maintain control when approaching turns too quickly.

Other advanced features include Roll Stability Control and an Electronic Stability Programme.

Potential rivals for the 2015 Everest in Malaysia include the Isuzu MU-X.
