2015 LA Auto Show: 'Star Wars' and 'Back to the Future' cars come a-calling
LOS ANGELES: The Los Angeles Auto Show has brought with it a share of creative car makeovers as vehicle manufacturers partner with movie studios for a series of eye-catching tie-ins; we look at four recent homages from the show itself and abroad.
Fiat Automobiles has snagged the Star Wars look that turns its 2008 European Car of the Year into a piece of sci-fi headwear on wheels.
The Fiat 500e Stormtrooper has a custom colour scheme plus a windshield and side windows wrap that gives it the look of a First Order Stormtrooper's protective helmet.
The black and white theme continues with the supermini's interior that envelops leather and Alcantara upholstered front and rear seats, with a "Star Wars" logo placed on the dash and a First Order insignia placed on the leather-wrapped steering wheel.
And if the 500e Stormtrooper wouldn't look out of place next to a Karl Lagerfeld capsule collection, Fiat has an official fashion brand link-up in the form of the custom-wrapped DVF Fiat 500X, named after fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.
Meanwhile, Ford's Transit Connect isn't so much miniwagon as it is Minionwagon after a crossover with Universal Pictures' "Minions."
The seven-passenger, folding-seat Minionwagon is off on a US tour, starting at the final NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov 22 before heading to the Universal Orlando Resort, then Atlanta and Philadelphia before arriving in New York City.
Speaking of family-sized haulage, "The Peanuts Movie" has got a helping hand from Mercedes-Benz in the form of the V-Class van.
If we all thought Snoopy flies a Sopwith Camel, it turns out that he drives a Mercedes-Benz van, at least for now, as the Peanuts gang are going on a promotional tour of Germany.
That's ahead of "The Peanuts Movie" getting its domestic German-language premiere on Dec 23, while a 30-second computer animated commercial, Snoopy's Biggest Ride," does the job on TV.
Back at the LA Auto Show, Toyota brought its "Back to the Future" edition of the hydrogen-powered Mirai to the Convention Center floor.
Shown off at the Las Vegas SEMA Show at the start of November and now in Los Angeles, the gull-winged custom number also sports several other modifications courtesy of Toyota partner MV Designz a Mr Fusion power supply, a Flux Capacitor, time machine display, and mirrored wheels in addition to the films' Outatime registration plate.
