2017 Tokyo Motor Show: Daihatsu DN TREC concept hints at what new Perodua SUV may look like

TOKYO: Daihatsu has unveiled its DN TREC compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) concept, hinting at what's in store for Malaysians.

As Daihatsu is Perodua's partner, and the Malaysian automaker has indicated before that it is exploring the development of a compact SUV, the DN TREC concept does provide an inkling of what a Perodua SUV might look like. Perodua is not new to the SUV scene, having introduced the Kembara in 1998 and the fully imported Nautica in 2008. The Nautica 4WD, billed as a premium SUV, was a rebadged Daihatsu Terios, which also spawned the Toyota Rush.

The five-seater compact SUV concept can be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol hybrid engine or a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine.

It is aimed at those looking for a stylish, compact and versatile SUV to suit their active weekend lifestyles and weekday work commutes.
