The S90 T5 is priced at RM388,888 while the V90 T5 is tagged at RM393,888 (both on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of six per cent GST).

Both cars have a turbocharged engine delivering 254hp at 5,500rpm and maximum torque of 350Nm from 1,500 – 4,800rpm to the front wheels.

Built on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), both models represent the second phase of Volvo’s transformation.

The Volvo S90 and V90 challenge the traditional premium DE segment with a distinctly Scandinavian idea of luxury.

The V90 is the sole offering in the local premium DE estate segment.

"The S90 is our statement on the future direction of premium sedans. The V90 is a homage to our strong heritage and history in the premium estate segment. We are aware that the estate segment is a very niche in Malaysia but if we look at the increasingly dynamic lifestyle of Malaysians, we are certain that more and more people will re-discover the appeal of a premium estate," said Lennart Stegland, the managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

Like the XC90, the S90 and V90 carry the face of Volvo’s new design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues.

Key features include the iconic “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlight design, the new grille and Volvo Iron Mark, and the expressive use of the Volvo word mark on the rear.

Both cars run on 245/45 R18 tyres and standard kit includes the Intellisafe package which has Volvo’s City Safety, an advanced Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system that could detect and mitigate collisions with pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.

Also standard is the advanced semi-autonomous drive feature, Pilot Assist.

This system gives gentle steering inputs to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings and functions up to highway speeds of around 130km/h while automatically maintaining the set distance and speed determined by the user.

"We also intend to launch a T8 Twin Engine version, our Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) that could deliver close to 410hp and up to 50km of pure electric range (NEDC)," said Stegland.

"Earlier this year, we celebrated 50 years of our operations in Malaysia. It started with our production facility in Shah Alam which was established in 1967 – the first car assembly facility in Malaysia. Over the years, we have produced close to 65,000 cars and employed nearly 5,500 people in total."
