The A-segment hatchback is powered by a 1.0 litre 1KR-VE engine with variable valve timing that is connected to a five-speed manual transmission on the E variant and an electronically-controlled four-speed automatic transmission on all other variants.

“The Axia is at the very core of what Perodua stands for – to provide affordable and fuss-free mobility for all. Over 380,000 units have found homes since we first introduced the model in September 2014, and it was in fact our best-seller from 2015 through 2017,” said Perodua president and CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 (ASA 2.0) suite of driver assistance safety systems, which debuted on the Aruz seven-seater SUV in January, now enters the Axia range with the AV variant, making it the most affordable car in Malaysia with such a feature.

ASA is a driver assistance system that helps to reduce the risk of collisions and is by no means a substitute for safe driving (Always be alert and cautious behind the wheel).

ASA 2.0 comprises Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 km/h), Pre-Collision Warning (up to 100 km/h), Pre-Collision Braking (up to 80 km/h), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control.

“By bringing ASA 2.0 to the 2019 Perodua Axia, we are bringing advanced safety technology to the people, just like we did with the third-generation Perodua Myvi back in 2017,” said Zainal.

All variants from GXtra and above are equipped with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control, and all variants except the base E have ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution as standard.

The Perodua Axia was Malaysia’s first Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) at its birth in 2014.

Today, with rated fuel efficiencies of 22.5 km/l for the manual, 21.6 km/l for the auto and 20.8 km/l for the new STYLE variant, it continues to be among the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the country.

On the new Axia STYLE variant, Zainal said, “It's a new addition to the Axia family that will appeal to the fun and active side of your personality – stay tuned!”
