Alicia's fulfilling moments

By HONG BOON HOW | 11 April 2013
Between juggling books for the upcoming SPM examinations and her training for the national equestrian team, Raja Alicia Raja Amin still manages to find time for her passion - part-time modelling.

This Kuala Lumpur girl with Malay, German and Chinese parentage said she found the exposure in the fashion world rewarding even though she is only 18 years old.

“Not only do I get to meet interesting people, I will also learn a thing or two about the industry which is quite fascinating,” said Raja Alicia.

The girl is no stranger to the industry, having started modelling in her early teens.

One of her biggest breakthrough was qualifying for a place in the finals of Ford Models Supermodel (World Search Malaysia 2011) when she was 16.

She was the youngest among the competitors and had even been nicknamed “Baby” and “The Little One.”

Standing at 1.75m, Raja Alicia is quite tall for a Malaysian.

Her father is a heart surgeon and Raja Alicia is keen to build a career in the medical field.

At the moment, she has not decided on her field of specialisation but hinted it could be in psychology.

For the coming SPM examinations, Raja Alicia is taking 11 subjects, which includes tough ones such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature and Accounts.

It would be fair to say Raja Alicia has a hectic schedule; she also has to attend regular training for dressage.

Having been horse riding since she was seven, Raja Alicia was part of the Federal Territory equestrian team that won the gold medal in Sukma 2010.

Raja Alicia said this year’s qualifying for the dressage event would be tougher as riders would be using “borrowed” horses.

“We will not ride our own horses and use those provided by the games organisers. This format is designed to test the riders’ skills in controlling horses.

“I am very excited as I would be competing at an international event for the first time. The thrill is even more as I will be representing Malaysia,” she said.

Raja Alicia drives around in a Land Rover Discovery, a gift from dear old dad.

Even when she is used to large vehicles, Raja Alicia does not mind compact cars as she was used to driving her mother’s second-generation Proton Saga.

Having the chance to examine the Polo Sedan for the first time, Raja Alicia said the car was actually larger than she had thought.

The Polo Sedan.

“I had thought that the Polo Sedan would be as compact as the Polo hatchback but I was wrong. The overall interior was quite spacious,” she said.

Priced at RM99,888, the Polo Sedan comes with a 1.6-litre engine and a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.

Raja Alicia liked the front of the Polo Sedan, which reminded her of the Volkswagen Golf Mk6, a car she considers good looking.

“It’s good that Volkswagen has managed to retain the ‘cute’ looks of the Polo hatchback in the Polo Sedan while increasing the vehicle’s practicality and luggage space.”
