LOS ANGELES: The Audi A3 has the best seats, according to a J.D. Power 2017 Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study conducted on cars sold in the United States.

The study reported that A3 owners expressed 0.0 problems per 100 cars sold with the seats, supplied by Magna International.

Second place went to another Volkswagen-owned model, the Porsche Cayenne. Its seats, supplied by Adient, only received 0.8 problems per 100 vehicles.

Lear Corp supplied seats for the BMW X4, which was in third place with only 2.0 problems per 100 vehicles.

The J.D. Power study named the Porsche Cayman as having the best seats, produced by Lear Corp. as it had 1.3 problems per 100 vehicles.

Awards are presented to the seating system supplier. New-vehicle owners are asked to rate the quality of their vehicle’s seats and seat belts with respect to whether they have experienced defects or design problems in the first 90 days of ownership.

The study presented seven segment awards based on the J.D. Power vehicle segment designations: mass market compact car; mass market compact SUV/MPV; mass market midsize/large car; mass market midsize/large SUV; mass market truck/van; luxury car; and luxury SUV.

The 2017 Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study is based on responses from more than 77,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2017 model-year cars and light trucks registered in November-December 2016 and January-February 2017. The study was fielded from February through May.
