KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Motorrad Malaysia has unveiled the new BMW S 1000 XR and the R 1200 RS which promise to raise the benchmark for local sports, touring and adventure motorcycles.

The S 1000 XR is powered by a 999cc straight-four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with 160hp and 112Nm torque that delivers a punchy response at low and medium revs.

The twin headlights provided not only high lighting power but also gave the new S 1000 XR its unmistakable face.

The new adventure sport bike can additionally be specified with an optional LED daytime running light positioned in the centre between the two headlight units.

It also comes with riding modes of “Rain” and “Road,” as well as Automatic Stability Control (ASC) featured as standard.

Together with the standard Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), these features allow riders to fully enjoy the motorcycle’s performance with a high degree of riding safety.

The extra ABS Pro function goes a step further to make braking safer while cornering while the latest generation electronically controlled suspension system improves ride quality .

Meanwhile, the R 1200 RS gets a 1,170cc boxer engine using air/liquid cooling that produces 125hp and 125Nm of torque.

The R 1200 RS blends the touring qualities and comfort features of a BMW boxer tourer with the agility and dynamism of a BMW boxer sports bike.

Its seat is ergonomically designed for a perfect bond between the rider and machine and ensures fatigue-free riding pleasure even on long journeys.

The R 1200 RS also gets the latest generation BMW Motorrad Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) for better safety.
The rear suspension is the tried-and-tested EVO Paralevel single-sided swingarm type.

“Carving out a niche for itself as a crossover, the new 1000 XR combines the elements of touring ability of a GS with supersport characteristic of the RR which BMW Motorrad is renowned for,” said BMW Group Malaysia managing director and CEO Alan Harris.

“The R 1200 RS adds new sparkle to the great tradition of sports tourer bikes from BMW Motorrad and while it is a classic representative of the segment, the new RS also serves up a blend of agility and dynamism of the BMW boxer sports machine. It is the perfect choice for a dynamic yet comfortable motorcycling experience - from long-distance journeys on the highways to sporty rides along twisting interior roads,” he said.

The retail prices on the road, without insurance and including GST for the S 1000 XR and the R 1200 RS are RM112,900 and RM101,900 respectively.

Harris also said BMW Malaysia had delivered over 600 BMW motorcycles as of July, surpassing the 581 units sold in the entire 2014.

“With the introduction of these two new premium motorcycles, each catering to a diverse range of customers, I am confident that BMW Group Malaysia will continue to grow as we mirror the success of our global counterparts,” he said.
