MADRID: It's been indicated that the BMW X2 compact sport utility vehicle concept will be premiering at the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show and will be followed with a production version next year.

However, the concept is still undergoing tests in different parts of the world, and was subsequently spotted somewhere in Spain.

Aesthetically, the X2 is said to be share the X1's nose, right till the B-pillar where it's individuality begins to arise with a gradually sloping ceiling that leads towards a completely new rear-end.

Furthermore, the X2 looks to be produced alongside the X1 at the company's Regensburg factory in Germany.

Since the new X2 is based on the current X1, it means that the X2 will also utilise the company's Untere Klasse (UKL - lower class) platform that the current 2 Series Active Tourer also happens to use.

And if that's the case, we could see BMW doing the usual by introducing a front-wheel drive variant first, before making the more capable four-wheel drive variant available.

In terms of powerplants, there should be three and four cylinder turbocharged engines, with power ratings between 136 and 231hp, mated to an automatic transmission or an optional Sport automatic transmission - which should be a standard fitment in the 300hp M performance variant.
