Dubai cops' fleet of hypercars now includes fastest

DUBAI: No matter what it is, if it is in Dubai then it is probably the biggest and the best. Whether it is property or fountains or artificial islands they go large and luxe, and it seems as if the local police have taken that ethos to heart with its fleet of cars, one of which has gained entry to the Guinness Book of Records.

When it comes to ordering their patrol cars they do not choose to go to the mainstream brands like other police departments — no, they buy hypercars. The fleet includes a Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari FF among others. The most powerful though is a Bugatti Veyron.

The Dubai Veyron has now been pronounced the most powerful and fastest police car in the world — officially as it is now in the Guinness Book of Records. When it comes to records it doesn't get more official that that.

The Bugatti Veyron races to 100kph in just 2.5 seconds. If you try to outrun it at stop signals you will lose. With a top speed of 407kph, thanks to a 16-cylinder engine that produces a massive 1,000hp, it brings a whole new meaning to the words "hot pursuit". There is no getaway car that is its equal.

Three years ago in Los Angeles, USA, the police were gifted a 360kph Lamborghini Gallardo. At around the same time the Italian sports car brand donated a Huracan to an Italian police force but it all pales into insignificance against the Dubai line-up.

Any police force globally who want to try to take the title from Dubai will need to buy the quintessential ultimate super sports car, the Bugatti Chiron or perhaps a 427kph Hennessey Venom GT. There's a good chance though that Dubai police have already thought of this.
