STUTTGART: Mercedes-Benz's latest S-Class will make its official debut very soon and among the highlights are its new engine range, series of new electrification technologies, Intelligent Drive and a new comfort and wellness standards for the interior.

With production having begun, the new S-Class will be rolling in with a new radiator grille flanked by its MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with ULTRA RANGE Highbeam, which generates the maximum light intensity permitted by law.




Inside, there's going to be a new control and display concept and under a shared glass cover, the two high-resolution displays, each with a 12.3‑inch screen will blend together to form a Widescreen Cockpit.

There will also be touch-sensitive Touch Control buttons on the new steering wheel, which will include DISTRONIC and cruise control, while the infotainment system can be operated via a touchpad, centre console controller or LINGUATRONIC voice control with over 450 commands.

In terms of driving assistance systems, there will be Active Distance Control DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist, which is touted to be even more comfortable for the driver's use when keeping a safe distance and steering.

The Active Distance Assist Distronic will interact with map and navigation data to help support the driver based on the route, and can conveniently adjust the vehicle speed.



Handling and comfort will be handled by its Magic Body Control along with Road Surface Scan as well as curve inclination function for the first time to further enhance comfort.

In terms of power delivery, there will be a completely new range of highly efficient engines with new six-cylinder in-line diesel and petrol variants, as well as a V8 biturbo with cylinder shut-off.

Meanwhile, the 48-volt Integrated Starter Generator and electric booster compressor will also make their premier.

 

In Eco Assist mode, the S-Class will utilise navigation data, traffic signs and information from the driving assistance systems to help send its owner advance notifications in order to help enhance the level of driving comfort, allowing to coast to a stop with the engine off or with recuperation.



The S-Class' Energizing comfort control (from September 2017) networks different onboard comfort systems and allows a specific wellness setup according to the mood or needs of the customer. The extended ambience lighting creates interior lighting moods like a work of art by composing colour worlds from different colours.

For greater convenience, there will be a new Concierge service (market dependant), while mobile phones can now be charged wirelessly with front and rear passengers getting text messaging options allowing them to receive, send, forward and use voice-to-text to dictate text messages.
