KUALA LUMPUR: Three companies have come together namely PROTO Malaysia (PROTO), Car Credo Malaysia (Car Credo), and Opal Auto Mart (Opal), to provide Malaysians looking to purchase a used vehicle with Goo Warranty.

After the three companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding, it was announced that the warranty will be made available from January 2016 onwards and coverage will begin with the Klang Valley for the moment with the next possible area being Johor Baru.

The warranty will have used car buyers receive a 12-month warranty or 25,000km (whichever comes first) for privately registered vehicles that are not more than eight years old and with not more than 100,000km mileage.

To be eligible, the vehicle must first undergo a 344-point inspection by Car Credo personnel from Japan, which covers the structure, bodywork and engine.

The results are then recorded on a form along with the respective ratings that will go together with a Goo KANTEI certificate of inspection before being offered the Goo Warranty.

Furthermore, Opal will aid in warranty claims with its reach of 124 authorised workshops located nationwide while the services has been designed to be underwritten by an insurance company so as to retain financial stability.

A formal Service Agreement between PROTO and Opal about Goo KANTEI is to be signed shortly.

Both PROTO and Car Credo developed the warranty, which is based on a similar concept used in Japan by PROTO Corporation and has adapted the concept to Malaysian consumers’ requirements and the local conditions.

Goo KANTEI services are also available in Japan since 2006 and in Taiwan since 2013, which must adhere to the rules and regulations of the Japan Automobile Appraisal Association (JAAA) in order to remain certified.
