Harley-Davidson announces 2018 Softail range

By CARSIFU | 23 August 2017

MILWAUKEE: Harley-Davidson has overhauled eight of its bestselling Dyna bikes, which are now parked under the Softail series.

The Heritage Classic, Fat Boy, Low Rider, Breakout, Softail Slim, Deluxe, Fat Bob and Street Bob have been reclassified as Softtails.

Harley said the bikes would have revised fuel tanks and would be powered by bigger engines. The bikes' chassis would be lighter, stiffer and stronger than before. Suspension has also been improved.

The 1,746cc Milwaukee-Eight 107 V-twin is standard on all models. But Fat Boy, Fat Bob, Breakout and Heritage Classic buyers can upgrade to the larger 1,868cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 as an option.

All models come with LED headlights, keyless ignition and USB ports. The Fat Boy, Heritage Classic, Deluxe and Breakout have ABS as standard but the safety feature is optional in the rest.

The updated Softail line-up combines the good looks of the traditional Softail with the handling performance of the Dynas. The change was also because Harley had decided that the aging Dyna chassis was not equipped to handle the Milwaukee-Eight engine, hence the introduction of an improved chassis for the 2018 Softails to house the modern engine.

The Harley models are priced from US$14,999 to US$20,299 (RM65,000 to RM87,000) in the United States.
