PETALING JAYA: The new Honda BR-V is a wildly successful product, going by its sales performance. Three weeks after launch, over 4,000 bookings were registered, surpassing Honda Malaysia's expectations.

The company had initially set a monthly sales target of 800 units, but the 4,000 bookings is equivalent to the total sales target for five months.

Honda Malaysia said that although there was overwhelming demand for the seven-seat compact crossover, which we reviewed recently in Thailand, the delivery period remains at 1 to 2 months as it is able to scale up production across two production lines. The  V variant leads the number of bookings at 83% of the total number followed by the E variant. The V and E variants are priced at RM92,800 and RM85,800 respectively.

Honda Malaysia said many of the bookings were from first-time customers who had never owned a Honda before. The BR-V, powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, also attracted urban and suburban customers nationwide, it added.

To celebrate the huge windfall, Honda Malaysia said its CEO, Katsuto Hayashi, would send a hand-drawn BR-V birthday greeting card to all Honda customers in conjunction with their birthdays.

The boss, an artist too. Hayashi's handiwork will be seen in a BR-V birthday card to be sent to all Honda customers in conjunction with their birthdays.
