JAKARTA: The new Honda Mobilio began arriving in Indonesian dealerships from Jan 12 and is luring car buyers with its affordability and newly designed aesthetics.

Using the Honda Brio's platform, as does the recently launched BR-V (test drive)  in Malaysia, it comes with some re-designed items such as a new front grille, engine hood, headlights (now with LED guides), 15-inch wheels and rear license plate garnish.

Also available is a more aggressive RS variant that comes with a sportier set of 15-inch alloy wheels, after blacking-out the front grille and adding on power retractable door mirrors.

Within this light multi-purpose vehicle that seats seven, the seats now feature separated and adjustable headrests, while the second row seats are more plush with thicker cushions.

New to cabin are the steering wheel audio controls, six-speaker audio system, 6.8-inch colour touchscreen, automatic climate controls and a new meter-cluster.

The RS-variant's cabin gets blacked-out and is accented by orange stitches.

Under the hood lies a familiar 1.5-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated engine providing 118PS at 6,600rpm and 145Nm of torque at 4,600rpm, which gets managed by a manual transmission (M/T) or continuously variable transmission (CVT) before reaching the front wheels.

While able to travel with 189mm of ground clearance, the Mobilio has included more sophisticated technologies such as drive-by-wire and electronic power steering.

In terms of safety, it comes equipped with dual front SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability assist, hill-start assist, seatbelt pretensioners with load limiter, three-point seatbelts for second row as well as ISOFIX and tether points.

The Mobilio comes in three variants starting with the entry-level S (M/T only) costing IDR189,500,000 (RM65,000).

The mid-range E (M/T) costs IDR210,000,000 (RM70,000), while opting for a CVT will cost IDR221,000,000 (RM74,000).

The range-topping RS (M/T) variant comes priced at IDR233,000,000 (RM78,000) and the CVT is tagged at IDR243,500,000 (RM82,000).
