PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia made good on its promise in March to boost its presence in Sabah and Sarawak by setting up a logistics hub in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

The East Malaysia Centralised Distribution Centres would help Honda Malaysia push total sales in Sabah and Sarawak to over 600 units a month by 2016.

The two hubs are expected to ease Honda dealers’ operational activities and Honda Malaysia’s daily operations. With a hub in each state capital, vehicle delivery period to Honda dealers in each state is expected to be reduced from nine days now to only three days.

The quality of Honda vehicles being delivered to its dealers could also be maintained via efficient services provided at the hubs because Honda Malaysia previously faced issues of damages and minor scratches on the vehicles as a result of logistic transportation and longer hours of exposure under the sun while waiting for delivery.

The hubs would be operated and managed by Giga Shipping Sdn Bhd. It would undertake Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Management, which would include standard key management system, washing bays for vehicles to be cleaned before delivery to Honda dealers, security system to ensure safety of vehicles from thefts, parking lot management system, stock monitoring, Kaizen system to ensure that vehicles remain in good condition while in storage and a thorough inspection facility.

Honda’s sales grew from 2% to 3% in Sabah and from 3% to 5% in Sarawak last year. Both states contributed 5.6% to overall Honda sales.

Honda Malaysia is planning to set up a regional office, training facilities and parts warehouse to support Honda dealers and customers there. It also expects to set up four 2S dealers by March and to improve the services of 10 existing 3S dealers in key areas within both states.
