India first country to get Honda WR-V

NEW DELHI: Honda has introduced the WR-V sub-compact SUV into India last week, bringing the fight to the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

India is the first country to manufacture and launch the WR-V in the world, aiming to capture the market for the young and trendy. The WR-V is specifically built for the Indian and South American markets.

Based on the City and Jazz platform, the nearly 4.0-metre long vehicle is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that is capable of delivering almost 89hp at 6,000rpm and 110Nm of torque at 4,800rpm and comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.

A 1.5-L DOHC i-DTEC diesel version with a six-speed manual transmission is also offered. The engine produces 99hp at 3,600rpm and 200Nm at 1,750rpm.

The WR-V is the first model developed by Honda R&D India along with Honda R&D, Japan. The R&D in India has specifically worked on design & engineering concept suitable for right-hand drive and India-exclusive powertrains.

The new WR-V has a bold look. It has exclusive day-time-running LED DRL & position lamps and the front grill with solid wing face. The large glass area promises excellent driver visiblity and sense of space for all occupants.

The interior design concept of the new WR-V expresses fun, youthfulness, and progressive feeling. The new WR-V comes with two interior colour themes – Urban Casual: Black and Bluish grey seat fabric and Urban Sophisticated: Black & Silver seat fabric.

Based on Honda’s Man Maximum Machine Minimum concept, the WR-V offers generous space, which it claimed is more than cars in higher categories The cabin also features a front centre armrest designed to fit tablets and iPads, USB plug and accessory socket. Other practical features are three cup holders and four bottle holders .

"With the launch of the Honda WR-V, we would like to provide joy for recreational usage and comfortable driving for daily use in the city for customers in India. We are confident that WR-V will help us to fortify our premium image in all segments."

WR-V prices range from Rs 7.75 lakh (RM53,000) to Rs 9.99 lakh (RM68,000) (ex-showroom Delhi).
