PETALING JAYA: It's another record for Honda Malaysia as it announced the CR-V has achieved its two months’ sales target of 1,400 bookings in just one week.

This came less than two weeks after the CR-V was launched. Honda Malaysia has set a monthly sales target of 700 at the launch of the fifth-generation SUV.

Of the four variants, the 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD was the most popular accounting for 40% of the bookings, followed by 1.5L Turbocharged 2WD at 31%, 2.0L i-VTEC (2WD) at 20% and 1.5L Turbocharged 4WD at 9%.

In total, bookings for the turbocharged variants stood at 80% while the non-turbocharged variant was at 20%. The pattern showed that Malaysians were more receptive towards turbocharged engines, in line with the trend seen for the Civic, Honda Malaysia said in a statement.

Top colour chosen by customers was Lunar Silver Metallic accounting for over 30% of bookings. The new colour, White Orchid Pearl, was also popular, accounting for 27% of bookings.

The new CR-V was launched simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching as a tactic for Honda Malaysia to widen its market share in Sabah and Sarawak. The 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD variant was well received in the two states, with sales standing at 38%.

The 7-seater BR-V was the first model to have been launched at the same time in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur in January. Sabah and Sarawak now contribute 6.6% to national sales, with year-on-year growth at 48% compared to the same period last year.

Honda Malaysia said it is working to ensure that the waiting period for buyers to get their vehicles is at the standard period of 1-2 months. It said all customers who have already booked the CR-V would get it by September.
