The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) is urging car owners to replace their faulty Takata airbag inflators.

In a statement, the MAA said its members had spent a lot of efforts in tracking car owners and inviting them to replace the faulty Takata airbag inflators.

These efforts included setting up VIN number checker, airbag replacement campaigns, and extra working hours.

"The faulty Takata airbag inflators can cause injury and in the worst case, death," said MAA president Datuk Aishah Ahmad.

Owners of the affected vehicle models who have yet to get their airbag inflators replaced are strongly urged to contact the distributor of the vehicle immediately to receive the free remedy repair for their cars.
