SEPANG: Making an appearance was Marco Melandri of the Aprilia Racing Team, who arrived prior to taking part in round six of the World Superbike (WSBK) Championship at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

Taking place from June 6-8, Malaysia is not only hosting its first WSBK Championship weekend, but has become the first Asian country to do so.

Also making an appearance was Aprilia Racing team principle Romano Albesiano and team manager Dario Raimondi who thanked almost 100 Aprilia owners for convoying from the main Aprilia Showroom in Kampung Baru to the Sama Sama Hotel.

"It's not our first time at SIC because we have tested here before and both Sylvain Guintoli and Melandri both have raced here before, so we are quite confident. Right now, we are concerned about the weather for the race," said Raimondi.

After an autograph session with Melandri, the team and Aprilia owners were treated to a dinner as well as a host of performances for the remainder of the night.

During the race weekend, the Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC ABS will be on display at SIC and bike enthusiasts will be able to test the bike on a static jump start machine.

Additionally, an Aprilia Red Zone (till June 8) was created at the Lot 10 Shopping Mall - displaying the full range of Aprilia bikes and assorted merchandise including limited WSBK T-shirts and caps.

"This is the first time that the WSBK Championship is being held here in Malaysia and it is a great honour for NAZA to host the Aprilia team members together with our customers," said vice president of Naza Two Wheels Division Nik Danial Nik Mahmood.

While Melandri is keen to put down the power of the Aprilia RSV4 onto the track for some strong results, Guintoli is concentrating hard on his title contention.
