PEKAN: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Pekan plant marked the production of its 25,000th Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle on Wednesday.

As one of nine Daimler CKD commercial vehicle production facilities worldwide, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Pekan production plant is spread across 19,000 sq metres. The Pekan production plant produces a large variety of commercial vehicles, including the largest in the world, the Actros.

The commercial vehicle production line is operated by 176 employees, and has a current capacity of 4,000 units a year.

“Reaching the 25,000th commercial vehicle is a definite milestone for us,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice president for production plant Ingbert Grombach.

“Every detail, from assembly to painting and quality control, counts; and as we would like to demonstrate, every truck has earned its star”.
The commercial vehicle production line differs from passenger vehicles. With shorter and wider space to accommodate the size of commercial vehicles, the production process has five stations.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s commercial vehicle portfolio is designed for a wide range of applications. From long-distance to short-radius distribution transport, work on construction sites and rescue operations, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has supplied commercial vehicles to multinational corporations and a variety of organisations, including fire stations, hospitals and rescue services.

With a current market share of 16.4 per cent, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has also secured significant fleet deals since establishment, with key partners such as Swift Haulage Sdn Bhd, Interway Transport Sdn Bhd and Landbridge Haulage Sdn Bhd.

As a customer-oriented solutions provider, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia continues to develop its product portfolio and after-sales service in tandem with the demand for commercial vehicles.

Its current best-selling model, is the six by two configuration, Mercedes-Benz MP3 Actros 2640LS.
