PETALING JAYA: More people have come forward to pay their outstanding traffic summonses, 12 days after Ops Warta was launched on May 19.
Federal Traffic Police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff said as of Saturday, 58,177 summonses with warrants of arrests were settled and 550,487 summonses were paid.
Police had also arrested 2,691 people, while 13,191 others had surrendered themselves.
SAC Mohd Fuad said although 58,177 warrants of arrest had already been settled, the number was less than 4% of the total of 1.59 million outstanding warrants of arrest.
“We will increase our effort to search, track and arrest those who still refuse to come forward to settle the warrants of arrest that were issued against them,” he said in a statement.
He added that traffic police would also seek help from more teams to make arrests at offices and workplaces as well as carrying out road blocks more frequently.
“We know where they are. If they do not want to be arrested and embarrass themselves, they should come forward to any police station to avoid being dragged to court.
