Proton Edar gets new CEO

SUBANG JAYA: Proton Holdings Bhd has appointed Abdul Rashid Musa as the CEO of Proton Edar Sdn Bhd effective Feb 1, 2017.

This confirmed part of a StarBiz report earlier today, titled Geely leads in bid for Proton where it was noted that the national automaker had made management changes in preparation for the entry of a new technical partner.

In the report, Chinese automaker Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd is said to be leading the race to become the technical partner of Proton.

Abdul Rashid replaces Rohime Shafie who has been assigned to DRB-Hicom as the Head of Automotive in the Automotive Distribution and Manufacturing & Engineering Division reporting to Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer, Automotive Distribution and Manufacturing & Engineering, DRB-HICOM.

Abdul Rashid has over 27 years experience in the automotive field, and was a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Malaya in 1989.

Prior to this appointment, Abdul Rashid was the Chief Technical Officer of Proton.

In a statement, Proton CEO Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said he was pleased to welcome Abdul Rashid as the new head of Proton Edar and thanked Rohime for his dedication and commitment since his secondment to Proton on August 20, 2014.

Proton Edar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Proton, which distributes Proton cars and provides sales and after-sales services.
