Mitsubishi Triton gets new MIVEC engine

By CARSIFU | 5 September 2016

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck has a new engine, namely a 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel unit with VGT (variable geometry turbo) intercooler.

Compared with the previous 2.5-litre engine, the new MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic control system) engine is more powerful and fuel efficient.

Thus, the Triton is the first pick-up here to have variable valve timing technology and also, an aluminum alloy engine.

By using lightweight aluminum instead of traditional cast iron, the new engine is about 30kg lighter.

Power has increased to 181ps at 3,500rpm (previously 178ps at 4,000rpm) and 430Nm of torque at 2,500rpm (previously 400Nm at 2,000rpm), while fuel consumption is lower by up to 15%.

Mitsubishi says noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) has also been improved, thus providing a quieter and comfortable drive.

Using a timing chain also means reduced maintenance cost, and longer service lifespan.

The new Triton VGT Adventure X variant is the flagship, and comes standard with a shield extender for the front bumper, a new sports bar with fullbox, and dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels.

Automatic bi-xenon HID Headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights and rear fog lamps are now available as standard on all VGT variants.

The new Triton comes with two years of free maintenance and a three-year/100,000km factory warranty, whichever comes first.
