PETALING JAYA: We got wind that Bermaz Motors has finalised the prices of the new Mazda CX-5, which should be arriving soon. And by the way, the Mazda2 that has been upgraded with G-Vectoring Control technology (GVC) has shipped in locally.

But first the CX-5.

From what is known, five versions will be offered, with prices ranging from RM137,000 to RM183,000 (on-the-road price without insurance).

2.0G 2WD (GL) priced at RM136,406;

2.5G 2WD (GLS) at RM164,887;

Prospective CX-5 buyers can choose from either a 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre petrol engine or go for the 2.2-litre diesel engine. All variants of the second-generation SUV are front-wheel drive with all-drive only available in the diesel CX-5. They will all be locally assembled.

All variants are linked to a six-speed auto gearbox with G-Vectoring Control. The 2.0-litre mill makes 163hp and 210Nm of torque. The more powerful 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G powerplant delivers 192hp and 257Nm of torque. For the highest torque, the SkyActiv-D diesel will satisfy, producing 173hp and 421Nm of twist.

For buyers looking to have their CX-5 in one of three so-called premium colours - Machine Grey, Soul Red Crystal or Snowflake Pearl White - an extra RM2,000 is payable.

The base GL CX-5 can be optionally upgraded with leather seats and sat-nav for RM2,900 and RM1,270 respectively.

Mazda2 with GVC here

The refreshed fourth-generation Mazda2 is now available with G-Vectoring Control technology (GVC), along with a number of detailed improvements to the car's suspension and steering to deliver improved levels of comfort and a more responsive feel for the driver.

But the best news is that prices of the Mazda2 hatch and sedan will stay unchanged. This means they will still be available from RM87,587 to RM92,887.

GVC uses the engine to enhance chassis performance. It is the world’s first control system to vary engine torque in response to steering inputs in order to provide integrated control of lateral and longitudinal acceleration forces and optimise the vertical load on each wheel for smooth and efficient vehicle motion.

The new Mazda2 feature some interior upgrades such as new seat fabrics, a new steering wheel design and better sound insulation. Deep Crimson Mica is new and an additional colour for the model.

The facelift has left the 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol engine untouched. It's still the same mill producing 114hp and 148Nm of torque, linked to a 6-speed automatic with steering wheel paddle shifters.
