PETALING JAYA: Six Honda models sold in Malaysia are the subject of a recall to replace defective airbags.

Honda Malaysia today said the 143,970 units include the City (2006-2012 YM), Civic (2006-2011 YM), Civic Hybrid (2007-2011 YM), CR-V (2007-2011 YM), Insight (2011-2012 YM), Jazz (2009-2012 YM) and Stream (2007-2012 YM).

Affected cars would have their driver front airbags replaced with newly produced inflators at no charge to the owners.

Honda Malaysia assured that  all current selling models did not have the dangerous flaw.

It said notification letters would be sent to affected customers and they should send their vehicles to the nearest authorised Honda dealer for inspection as soon as possible.

Honda owners can also check their vehicle’s product update status by calling Honda at 1-800-88-2020, log on to www.honda.com.my, or visit any authorised Honda outlets.

Honda's announcement followed a similar Toyota recall in Malaysia on Tuesday in which nearly 30,000 cars had been identified for recall.
