Perodua targets 34% market share in 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua sold 207,100 vehicles in 2016, a marginal drop from the 213,300 units it sold in 2015.

At a briefing today, president and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh attributed the lower sales to a challenging 2016, underpinned by stiff competition and prudent lending guidelines.

On total industry volume (TIV), Aminar said Perodua is forecasting a 2% increase to 590,000 for 2017.

“Based on this projection, we target to capture 34% market share or to sell 202,000 vehicles in 2017,” he said.

Based on expected TIV of 579,600 for 2016, Perodua’s market share hit an all time high of 35.7% last year.

Aminar said Perodua grew its exports volume in 2016 to 4,700 units from 4,400 units in 2015 - with over 60% of exports to Indonesia.
