PARIS: Peugeot has revealed its vision of tomorrow's driving environment with the unveiling of its innovative i-Cockpit that comes with improved comfort and safety with advanced sensory engagement.

The French carmaker's new interior design will be the direction for future models with advanced ergonomics, head-up digital instrument displays and interactive touchscreen technology.

It will feature a new more compact steering wheel, provide greater field of vision, free up more leg room.

The company says that the driver's arms are now closer when holding the steering wheel, reducing the breadth of movement required during manoeuvres, thus making the car more responsive and agile for the driver, with an improved, more relaxed driving position.

The new design further builds on the elevated instrument cluster of the current generation i-Cockpit with a new 12.3-inch high-resolution digital screen replacing the previous analogue display.

It is positioned in the driver’s line of sight and the large screen clearly displays all critical information to drivers within the field of view, enabling more information to be read easier and quicker. This removes the need for drivers to look away from the road, enhancing driving safety.

The company's designers have also developed a bespoke futuristic graphics for drivers and passengers to help further enhance their ‘in-cabin’ experience with a fully customisable display with animations and transitions.

Passengers will also note the new tablet-like 8.0-inch touchscreen in the centre of the instrument panel, which has been further simplified and with increased responsiveness, while featuring 3D navigation on both information screens and real-time traffic information from Tom Tom Traffic.

Other features include voice recognition and commands that allow for hands-free automatic text message management reading, drafting and sending messages as well as Apple CarPlay, Mirrorlink and Android Auto technologies.

Rear seated passengers will note the lack of buttons, choice of high-grade materials, multi-point massage seats and in-built fragrance diffuser with two atmospheric settings such as ‘Boost’ and ‘Relax’.
