ATLANTA: Porsche will present a variant of its recently launched US$165,000 (RM670,000) Cayman GT4 Clubsport that Manthey-Racing (MR) has taken and had its way with - meet the lighter and more expensive GT4 Clubsport MR.

Porsche hasn't mentioned how much the lightened version will cost and is waiting for the unveiling to happen first at the upcoming Total 24 Hours of Spa.

MR has fitted the Clubsport with its in-house developed parts, which allows it to qualify as a Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO)-homologated GT4 race car and can be used to participate in both national and international races within the GT4 category.

To recap, the base Cayman GT4 Clubsport isn't street-legal and uses a 3.8-litre dry-sump flat-six engine that sends 385hp and 420Nm of torque to a rear locking differential via a six-speed double-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission rather than a standard six-speed manual.

With the MR designation slapped on, lightweight parts have been fitted such as the doors and hood made of carbon fibre, a polycarbonate windscreen and an optional lightweight battery to help knock off a total of about 40kg from its 1,300kg race-ready weight.

Furthermore, it's also been fitted with a rear wing that's larger than the basic vehicle and is combined with extended wing brackets and retains use of the 911 GT3's front struts, as well as the standard GT4's rear suspension and axle.

Also, it rolls on 18-inch wheels with racing slicks from Michelin, which partially hides the six-piston (front) and four-piston (rear) callipers that bite down on 15-inch vented steel discs all-round.

Lastly, the car sits on a two-way adjustable race suspension kit with linear bearings and an adjustable sway bar with blade adjustment

In the North American market, the Porsche GT4 Clubsport MR and Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport upgrade kit will be distributed exclusively by Porsche Motorsport North America.

The car will be eligible for Pirelli World Challenge GTS class competition and in IMSA’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS class.
