GELANG PATAH: Singapore-registered vehicles that aren’t registered under the Road Charges (RC) with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) before Sept 1 will be turned away from entering Malaysia.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said the mandatory online registration applied to all private vehicles, public buses, taxis, goods vehicles as well as diplomatic cars.

He said the registration would start on Aug 15 and vehicle owners had to pay RM10 for the RC, which is valid for five years.

“By having the system, we will have a clearer picture on the number of foreign vehicles entering Johor Baru through the Causeway and the Second Link Crossing here,” Abdul Aziz said after a visit to the Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex in Tanjung Kupang here yesterday.

Abdul Aziz said reading of the RC would be done via the Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) and the JPJ and the police could detect Singapore motorists who had outstanding road summonses in the country or whether the vehicles were stolen from the republic into Malaysia.

He said the RM20 fee of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for foreign vehicles would start on Oct 1, instead of Sept 1, as announced earlier.
