Renault Kaptur unveiled in Moscow

MOSCOW: Renault is making headway into Russia with the unveiling of the four-wheel drive Kaptur.

The Kaptur is one of the 10 new models that Group Renault president and CEO Carlos Ghosn announced this year as Renault continues to expand outside of Europe, notably Russia, by trying to appeal to motorists who lead busy life-styles, appreciate a modern atmosphere and value comfort.

Furthermore, to heighten the Kaptur's appeal, the French carmaker has also developed a unique set of customisation options for the car that's manufactured at Renault's Moscow plant and is due to go on sale in the third quarter of this year.

The new model is the latest addition to Renault’s range in Russia, joinging the likes of the marque's crossover and SUV line-up such as the Sandero Stepway, Duster and Koleos.

Design-wise, the Kaptur is based on the company's six-petal flower strategy, symbolising the human life cycle, and is the brand's new approach to styling in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) - formed after the Soviet Union was disolved in 1991.

The front end features Renault’s bold new logo set against a gloss black background and a new honeycomb mesh grille, while the tail lights feature C-shaped LED lighting with 3D-effect.

With a wheelbase of 2,674mm, it measures 4,333mm-long, 1,813mm-wide (not inlcuding wing mirrors) and 1,613mm-tall while having 204mm of ground clearance - gifting it with approach and departure angles of 20 and 31 degrees respectively.

It also gets a wide tailgate aperture of 1,002mm for the the 387-litre boot volume that's expandable to 1,200 litres with the 60/40-split bench fully-folded.

Other equipements in the Kaptur includes keyless entry with push-start button, navigation, seven-inch (18cm) touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity and Remote Engine Start system as well as heated front seats and windscreen.

“To design Renault KAPTUR, we have mixed the best of Renault’s eye-catching design with a specific attention to Russian needs for off-road abilities, travelling comfort and versatility. It is a genuine crossover, with a robust, expressive design,” said Groupe Renault corporate design vice president Laurens van den Acker.
