KUALA LUMPUR: Those intending to see the KL City Grand Prix are advised to take public transport because roads around the circuit will be closed from Friday to Sunday for the event.

Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Perak and Jalan P. Ramlee will be closed from 7.30am to 6pm during the three-day race.

City Internal Security and Public Order chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid urged those attending the GP to use public transport.

“Yes, we know there will be traffic jams, but it does not mean you won’t be able to move at all. Traffic movement will be slow.

“So, the best thing will be to take the monorail or LRT,” he told reporters at the KL traffic headquarters here yesterday.

SAC Wan Abdul Bari said the authorities would make concessions for those who work at companies located along the roads that were due for closure and control access during the event.

“However, they will need an access card to enter the area. These cards are issued by the organiser.

“You can collect them at the media centre in Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur,” added SAC Wan Abdul Bari.

Controlled access would also be given to people living in the area, he added.

City traffic chief Asst Comm Mohd Nadzri Hussain said 200 police personnel would be assigned to monitor traffic for each shift during the race days.

Police would work with the City Hall team to monitor the situation.

“There will also be 500 marshals assigned around the circuit,” he said.

More information on the road closure and recommended parking spots can be found on the official KL traffic police Facebook page.
