Singer Vehicle Designs descending on Amelia Island

LOS ANGELES: The southern California company renowned for restoring and re-imagining Porsches with an obsessive attention to detail is bringing two of its newest commissions to the annual the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on March 11 in Florida

Each Singer recreation is named after the geographical home of its owner and what makes the two cars - North Carolina and Florida - so special is that they are among the very, very few of Singer's 40+ commissions to date to head to US homes.

The North Carolina Car started out life as a 1991 Porsche 911 and is the first Singer recreation to boast clean sides - ie no striping or decals - as well as a more potent 4-litre flat-six engine.

Florida meanwhile is the first Porsche reimagining to leave the Singer workshop finished in its unique Hemingway Blue paint.

Like all its re-imagined 911s both have a completely new Singer-designed carbon fibre exterior and bespoke interiors. The only things that the re-imagined and donor cars still have in common are their doors and the roof, which are left ‘stock'. Every other element is overhauled or replaced in the pursuit of perfection.

"We began in 2008 with a vision to offer aficionados the opportunity to re-imagine their 911 without compromise," said company founder Rob Dickinson. "And now, with more than 40 commissions completed, and a significant global following, we've expanded our promise to remain obsessive in the details and keep striving for more innovations along the way."

Despite prices that start at US$500,000 Singer's services are in such huge demand among the global Porsche collecting community that at any one time there is a six-month waiting list.
