LONDON: The first new Ssangyong Rextons arrived in Britain after a 13,000km "test drive" from South Korea

All five cars arrived in Frankfurt in time for press day at the IAA motor show, with two of the cars completing their epic journey at the SsangYong Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in Oxfordshire.

In what might be called the ultimate "test drive", the five SUVs completed the 50-day journey from the SsangYong factory at Pyeongtaek in South Korea, via Beijing and the Silk Road.

Designed to test the vehicles in extreme conditions, the Rexton Trans Eurasia Trail travelled through 10 countries, including China, Kazakhstan and Russia, before arriving at Blenheim estate.

The fourth-generation Rexton heralds major advances in style, quality, safety and technology and will be launched in Britain next month from £27,500 (RM156,000).

It is a large, D/E-segment 4x4, powered by a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine delivering 179hp and maximum torque of 420Nm, with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission. It has a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.
