SEPANG: Suzuki is looking to attract street riders with its latest GSX-S (Street) offerings of the naked GSX-S1000 ABS (RM68,400) and the fairing-equipped GSX-S1000F (RM74,400).

Both bikes come with a saddle height of 810mm as well as a wheelbase of 1,460mm and are similarly sized at 2,115mm-long, 795mm-wide and 1,080mm-tall – only the S1000F is 100mm taller at 1,180mm and weighs 15kg more at 214kg (wet).

Both two-wheel machines uses the same 999cc four-cylinder engine found in the 2005 GSX-R1000, only it’s been specifically tuned for street use with the bulk of power found in the low to mid-range of the engine thanks to a longer stroke and new cams.

The engine, while mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and sipping from its 17-liter fuel tank, produces 145hp at 10,000rpm and 106Nm of torque at 9,500rpm.

It rides on 17-inch wheels with 120/70 (front) and 190/50 (rear) tyres and gets its stopping powers from its ABS-equipped Brembo discs and callipers.

KYB provided the naked and faired Japanese bikes with 43mm inverted forks (front) with a 25-degree rake and a single link-type shock absorber with a coil spring for the rear’s 100mm trail.

Both bikes are equipped with a three-mode traction control system of low-medium-high sensitivity levels (can be entirely disengaged), which checks the front and rear wheel speeds, throttle position, crank position, and gear position – 250 times per second.

The Suzuki GSX-S series comes in three colour choices of Metallic Triton Blue, Glass Sparkle Black with Candy Daring Red and Metallic Mat Fibron Gray.
