PETALING JAYA: UMW Toyota today launched its seven-seater Sienta multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in two variants with prices starting from RM92,900.

The Sienta arrives in completely built-up form directly from Toyota's assembly facility in Indonesia and is priced on-the-road with GST and insurance at RM92,900 for the entry-level 1.5G and RM99,900 for the 1.5V range-topper.

It comes with a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage and six colour choices of Orange Metallic, Super White II, Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic, Attitude Black Mica and Quartz Brown Metallic.

According to Toyota Motor Corp Sienta project chief engineer Hiroshi Kayukawa, the Sienta, which he says competes against the Honda Freed, is actually based on a modified Vios platform.

The Sienta's ground-clearance was adjusted from its original Japanese domestic market specifications to 20mm higher at 180mm to help it clear Malaysian speed bumps.

At 4,235mm-long, the Sienta has a wheelbase of 2,750mm and is 1,695mm-tall as well as 1,695mm-wide (without mirrors) and was designed with safety in mind to achieve a five-star Asean NCAP rating.

Strong high-tensile steel has been used to strengthen the vehicle's structure with the rear sliding doors having been equipped with reinforced bars.

A 42-litre fuel tank, feeds the front-mounted naturally aspirated 1.5-litre (1,496cc) 2NR-FE engine, with dual overhead camshafts and dual VVT-i for valve-lift.

Kayukawa says that this is the same engine found in the current Avanza, only it now has 2hp and 4Nm more , upping the performance to 106hp at 6,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 4,200rpm.

“We have tuned the Sienta’s engine for more power as drivers in the Asean region preferred cars with better acceleration,” he said.
