KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Premira, the official distributor of the Vespa brand of bikes in Malaysia, has introduced the Vespa S125 - priced at RM12,462 (cash on-the-road).

The new bike comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, a one-year AAM Bike Assist membership and special limited edition decals for the first 70 units sold in a choice of five colours, such as Taornima (Orange), Rosso Dragon (Red), Nero Vulcano (Black), Monte Bianco (White) and Grigio Titanio (Matte Grey).

In the looks department, the S125 gets characterised by its square headlight, new instrument panel graphics, mask on the front shield as well as the 'tie' to distinguish all new generation Vespa bikes.

The list of new features include the horn guard on the shield, black crest on the front mudguard instead of chrome on its predecessor and a new guard with the brand's logo on the footboard.

At 167kg (dry), the S125 has a seat-height of 785mm, while having a wheelbase of 1,280mm and measuring 1,770mm-long and 740mm-wide.

It uses an 8.3-litre fuel tank for its new 124cc electronically fuel-injected single-cylinder four-stroke engine that has had its operating friction levels reduced to help raise fuel efficiency from 50km to 55km per litre.

Power has been rated at 11.6hp at 8,250rpm and 10.7Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, while being mated to a continuously variable transmission for that 'twist-and-go' convenience.

There's also a new quieter and more efficient free-wheel electric starter as well as an automatic dry centrifugal clutch that has been calibrated to help maximise performance and fuel economy at low speeds.

Shock absorption is taken care of by its front and rear red monoshock absorbers with a dual-action single-sided link arm with coil spring for the front and a stand-alone pre-load adjustable dual-action coil spring at the rear.

Stopping power comes from a 200mm front hydraulic disc brake and 110mm rear drum brake, while grip is afforded by the 110/70 (front) and 120/70 (rear) series tyres fitted on the 11 and 10-inch five-spoke wheels respectively.

“The Vespa S125 embodies the heritage of legendary models from the 70's, such as the Vespa 50 Special and the Vespa Primavera, offering a trip down memory lane.” said Naza World Group of Companies group executive chairman Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin.

He added that it is currently "the sportiest and most youthful Vespa's 'small body' available" and added that "it is a Vespa that makes minimalist design its distinguishing feature in order to definitively win the approval of the young enthusiasts".
