VW Malaysia: No emissions cheating in cars sold locally

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Group Malaysia clarified that its vehicles sold locally are not affected by the worldwide scandal engulfing the Wolfsburg-based auto maker over fake emissions tests on diesel cars.

"We have not been selling any vehicles with EA 189 diesel engines in Malaysia," it said in a statement, referring to the engines that Volkwagen AG admitted has an illegal software that helped the company to cheat on emissions tests.

Some 11 million cars sold in the United States, Europe and elsewhere under the Volkswagen group are affected and are subject to recall. Apart from VW cars, they include Audi, Skoda and SEAT cars.
