Website commemorates the Corolla's 50th anniversary

TOKYO: Toyota has a special website to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Corolla, the world's best-selling car of all-time.

Born in Japan in 1966, the Corolla has seen a record 44 million units sold globally to date.

The Corolla is now being produced in 13 countries, and over 1.3 million units are sold annually in more than 150 countries.

This website http://newsroom.toyota.co.jp/en/corolla50th/ features various aspects of the Corolla, including customer memories, the history of the vehicle, comments from those charged with developing the car, special content including an AE86 Levin test-drive video and a commentary by a "Corolla geek", and a gallery of the generations of the Corolla and key historical photos, as well as web links to news releases of the Corolla of each generation, and Corolla related websites.

The first-generation Corolla was described as a five-passenger compact car from Japan that was positioned as the "most accessible car" in the market.

It had a powerful water-cooled inline-four engine with 1,077cc and 60hp.
