138 summonses issued for number plates offences

JITRA: A total of 138 summonses have been issued for number plates not following measurements and specifications offences in Ops Roda at KM30.3 of the North-South Expressway, Jitra toll plaza, here Saturday.

Bukit Aman's Enforcement and Highway Operations Deputy Supt Mustafa Bakri Salleh said the offences were committed by superbike owners who modified the registration numbers in various shape.

He said among the reasons given by motorcycle owners are the number plates were given by the motorcycle shop, following current trends and they did not know about their offences.

"We have also issued summonses to luxury car owners who use the wrong registration numbers, they claim that the number looks beautiful and elegant," he told reporters.

Apart from that, Mustafa said superbikers used B2 motorcycle licence which is for motorcycles under 250cc not for superbikes over 500cc.

Mustafa said the operation began at 10am and ended at 2pm was conducted by six officers and 19 police personnel from Bukit Aman and the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters.

The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and the Road Transport Department were also involved in the operation, he said.

In the operation, 257 summonses were issued for various offenses including a total of 138 summonses for number plates not following specifications, no driving licence (32 cases), side mirrors (four cases), not placing the L sticker for learner driver, and brake light (two cases), he said.
