PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia is recalling 2,784 units of 1999 Year Model Accord and 2000 Year Model CR-V to replace their Takata driver airbag inflators.

The exercise is a preventive measure in line with Honda global Non-Azide Driver Airbag Inflator (NADI) recall.

The affected models are 1,380 units of 1999 Accord and 1,404 units of the 2000 CR-V.

Honda Malaysia said the current selling models are not affected in this product recall, and the company will continue to uphold transparency and stringent controls for customers.

The company said the product recall was necessary as a preventive measure to address the possibility of the Takata driver front airbag inflator having excessive internal pressure and thus, causing the airbag to fail to function properly or to rupture.

As at today, there is no report in Malaysia of any incident or injury caused by the Takata driver front airbag in these two Year Model vehicles.

The replacement of the affected Takata drive front airbag inflator is free of charge and all costs related to this replacement activity will be borne by Honda Malaysia.

Affected owners will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product recall.

Honda Malaysia said affected owners can contact any Honda authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receipt of notification to replace the driver front airbag inflator subject to parts availability.

The company is also encouraging owners who have relatives or friends having these two year models to immediately contact Honda Malaysia to arrange for the driver front airbag replacement.

Honda Malaysia is taking all necessary precaution at its dealerships nationwide to protect the well-being of its valued customers and Honda associates.

As such, the affected customers should make an appointment in advance to ensure a smooth and quick driver front airbag replacement process.

Customers are required to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities, which include wearing face masks properly, maintaining physical distancing and sanitising their hands at all times when visiting the dealerships.

The replacement stock will be available in stages and owners who are unsure if their vehicles are affected in this recall, can obtain more information by calling Honda Toll Free number at 1-800-88-2020 or log on to www.honda.com.my to check their vehicle status.
