KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia saw its highest performance record in the company’s history in 2014.

Last year, BMW Group Malaysia delivered a record total of 9,046 vehicles comprising of 7,808 BMW, 655 MINI and 583 BMW Motorrad vehicles, an increase of 13.4% as compared to the same period in 2013 (7,974).

BMW Group Malaysia managing director & CEO Alan Harris  said, “We are very pleased with our performance last year which has allowed us at BMW Group Malaysia to once again emerge as the number one premium automaker in the country.”

Harris further added that strong demand for the variants of the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 5 Series as well as the introductions of new BMW, MINI and Motorrad models in 2014 were the key reasons that propelled the premium carmaker towards the company’s record-breaking sales performance in the country.

“While the 3 Series and 5 Series remain strong contenders in the market and are greatly appreciated by our customers, we were able to provide a wider range of models for the Malaysian premium segment with the all-new BMW X4, the New MINI as well as new BMW Motorrad models such as the BMW R nineT and BMW S 1000 R; all of which have gone on to redefine their respective segments. Additionally, our further investment in new locally assembled capabilities for the BMW X5, the MINI Countryman and the BMW F 800 GS and F 800 R motorcycles marked a historical milestone for BMW Group Malaysia not only in the country but also in South East Asia,” said Harris.

Reiterating Alan Harris sentiments, Hendrik von Kuenheim, Senior Vice President Region Asia, Pacific and South Africa, BMW Group said, “2014 was the best year ever for not just BMW Group Malaysia but also for the BMW Group worldwide. The impeccable result of achieving our target and keeping at its top spot in the Malaysian premium automotive segment further demonstrates that Malaysia continues to be a hub and home for the BMW Group in the region."

Globally, the BMW Group successfully reaffirmed its position as the world’s largest premium automobile group. Its delivery of 2,117,965 vehicles worldwide marks a 7.9% surge from previous record year (2013: 1,963,798), more than ever before in the company’s history.

In Asia, the BMW Group also delivered a strong growth in 2014 by delivering a total of 656,395 BMW and MINI vehicles, a 13.8% increase as compared to the same period in 2013 (576,616).
