TOKYO Lexus has set its sights on offering autonomous driving on regular roads in three years' time with its LS+ Concept luxury vehicle.

The sleek and yet dignified-looking vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and points towards the intelligent abilities of the future LS flagship sedan aside from its luxurious and upmarket image.

The concept sports a boldly evolved signature spindle grille and triangular head and tail lights.

The future flagship concept is fitted with Lexus' Highway Teammate automated driving technology that allows the car to enter or exit motorway ramps without driver intervention.

The technology will enable the car to respond to actual traffic conditions, make lane merging and diverging maneuvers, as well as keeping itself in its lane and maintain vehicle-to-vehicle distance.

The use of this technology, Lexus claims, would help contribute to reduced traffic casualties.

Lexus has been actively introducing advanced technologies based on its Integrated Safety Management Concept.

Its vision under the automated driving technologies is for all people to enjoy safe and smooth mobility, and the fun of driving.

The LS+ Concept can communicate with a data centre to update its systems' software and allow new functions to be added.

Meanwhile, its artificial intelligence learns from big data, including information on roads and surrounding areas, to ensure a high level of automated driving.

The car, which can learn and grow along with its users, represents a new age for which people can become emotionally attached to their smart cars.
