BANGKOK: The Hyundai Ioniq Electric with a 280km travel range was launched at the 2018 Bangkok Motor Show, and is priced at 1,749,000 baht (RM215,733).

The imported BEV (battery electric vehicle) is sold with a 3-years or 100,000km (whichever is first) warranty, and also a 8-years (unlimited distance) warranty on the 28 kWh high capacity lithium-ion polymer battery.

The C-segment hatchback with a 2,700mm wheelbase (like the Hyundai Elantra) offers a roomy cabin, and more importantly, a maximum range of 280km with power consumption as low as 11.5 kWh per 100km (based on NEDC standard).

The instantly available maximum torque of 295Nm is delivered by the electric motor with a maximum output of 88kW (120PS) by the single-speed reducer transmission accelerating the car up to 165km/h.

There's no gear stick here; instead, you have a space-saving push buttons-operated (P, R, D and N) system to switch
driving modes via shift-by-wire.

Charging the Ioniq Electric's lithium-ion polymer battery up to 80% only takes about 23 minutes using a 100 kW direct current (DC) fast charger.

However, charging via a home socket (max 2.3 kW) will take 12 hours, and charging via an installed wallbox (max 6.6 kW) can take 4 hours and 25 minutes.
