PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia chief executive officer and managing director Yoichiro Ueno will pack up and move to India  soon.

Honda said in a statement that he will assume his new position there as president and CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd with effect from April 1 as part of an extensive management revamp announced by Honda Japan on Tuesday. Honda Cars India is based in Greater Noida on the outskirts of New Delhi.

Ueno will take over from Katsushi Inoue, who will head to Honda Motor Europe Ltd as its president and director.

Asked who Ueno's replacement will be, Honda Malaysia said it has not received any information on the matter but will announce it when the details are forthcoming.

Ueno has served in Honda Malaysia since January 2011. He was previously the assistant vice president of automobile sales of American Honda Motor Co. Inc., where he was involved in the overall planning and coordination of sales and marketing in the US market.

Ueno has been associated with Honda for over 30 years and has vast experience in the automobile industry, having served in markets outside Japan like New Zealand and Thailand, and worked with overseas division and countries such as Asia and Oceania, China and North America.

Under his watch, Honda Malaysia had a stellar run and achieved record sales of 94,902 units in 2015, catapulting it to the top non-national brand for the first time in its history.
