Could these mules point to the new Proton Saga?

PETALING JAYA: CarSifu spotted two test mules whizzing by along the main road from Rawang to Selayang, Selangor, today.

Size-wise, they were small, compact sedans that were heavily camouflaged but they looked, at first blush, like the upcoming Proton Saga that is due for launch later this year.

We could only see the side and rear of the cars before they disappeared into the distance.

It is also possible that those are the long-rumoured Perodua sedans undergoing road trials. Perodua has admitted before that it is already testing a prototype sedan, which is likely to use a Toyota engine. It could be based on the Perodua Buddyz concept that made its first appearance at the 2013 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show.

However, one of the CarSifu’s team members is adamant that it must be the Saga “as the Perodua sedan is not due for another two to three years.”

Proton has gone on record to say that apart from the Saga, it is also due to revise the Persona and Perdana, which will be a collaboration with Honda. They will all be introduced by 2016 in the hope they would boost Proton’s lacklustre sales.

Meanwhile, a Proton-Suzuki partnership is expected to lead to a joint-venture product by the end of this year. Indonesian publisher Kompas Otomotif had reported that the Suzuki Ertiga would be rebadged as a Proton model.
