ADVERTORIAL: Mitsubishi Outlander off-roading in comfort

By CARSIFU | 8 November 2016

Drawing on Mitsubishi’s long heritage in making rugged 4X4s, the Outlander is not only a good off-roader but also delivers a comfortable ride in the urban jungles.

This stylish sports utility vehicle, won the “Best SUV/Crossover- Mid-Size 4X4, 7-Seater” award at the inaugural CarSifu Editors’ Choice Awards, 2016.

Judges for the awards were impressed by the 2.4-litre petrol-powered sport utility vehicle’s refined drive quality, a spacious seven-seater cabin, and premium comfort features to help justify its on-the-road price of RM168,600 without insurance (GST inclusive).

Imported from Japan, it is offered in three colours - Red Metallic, White Pearl and Grey Metallic.

The Outlander also has a 5-year or 100,000km (whichever comes first) warranty.

The 2016 Outlander was given a substantial mid-life update in Japan last year, featuring Mitsubishi Motors’ Dynamic Shield front design which signifies powerful performance and a reassuring protective stance.

The Outlander uses a car-like monocoque architecture for better handling and comfort, and reduced weight.

Premium features include a sunroof, electric tailgate, LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRL), automatic light and rain sensor for wipers, and leather seats.

Rear seats can be reclined for more comfort, and with both rear rows folded, the Outlander has a best-in-class 1,608 litres of space which can fit up to four golf bags or a single-bed mattress.

Making tight U-turns is not too difficult with the Outlander’s best-in-class turning radius of 5.3 metres.

Adding more road presence to the SUV are 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, with 225/55 R18 tyres.

There is ample power from the 2.4-litre Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) engine with 167ps at 6,000rpm and 222Nm of torque at 4,100rpm, which is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

For more performance, the Outlander SUV has a multi-select 4WD system offering three different modes – 4WD ECO, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock.

The 4WD ECO emphasises fuel economy where torque is distributed to the front wheels during normal driving conditions and automatically splits to all wheels for better traction and stability during slippery road conditions.

This means the Outlander can deliver fuel efficiency of 12.8km per litre (among the best-in-class, based on Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia in-house driving data).

Meanwhile, 4WD Auto automatically distributes the right amount of torque to all wheels to provide smoother cornering performance and maintain high speed stability while 4WD Lock permanently feeds torque to all wheels during a hill climb, muddy trails or rough roads.

Also, award judges liked the high safety kit levels, with standard safety features including seven airbags, active stability and traction control (ASTC), hill-start assist (HSA), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE body), collapsible steering column, ISOFIX anchors with rear seats, and security and solar window tint.

Those who buy the Outlander from now to Dec 31, 2016 will enjoy cash rebates up to RM4,000 and a two-year free maintenance package.
