AIRBAG RECALL: Toyota and Lexus in Malaysia unaffected - except one

By CARSIFU | 3 February 2016

SHAH ALAM: Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announced a global recall campaign for certain Toyota and Lexus models for rectification of an airbag system issue.

The recall is for models which are equipped with side Curtain Shield Airbags (CSA).

Due to improper programing of the airbag system in the Airbag Sensor Assembly (airbag control module), the CSAs situated on either side of the cabin may deploy and the seatbelt pre-tensioners activated under certain conditions while the vehicle is stationary.

Unexpected activation of the CSAs could increase the risk of minor injury to the occupant/occupants.

TMC is currently preparing the necessary remedial parts, which will be shipped to authorised distributors worldwide.

A Special Service Campaign will be announced when the parts are available.

In Malaysia, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd has been informed by TMC that no Toyota vehicles are affected by the recall campaign as all units officially imported and sold in Malaysia are not fitted with CSAs.

TMC has confirmed that only one unit – a Lexus LX470 – is to be recalled and the owner of the vehicle will be contacted on the matter by Lexus Malaysia.

Other Lexus models sold by the company are not affected.

Toyota and Lexus owners in Malaysia who require more information on this matter may call the Toyota free-phone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
