PETALING JAYA: An Instagram user has posted a teaser image of the new Subaru BRZ sports car, slated to make its debut soon, possibly by November.

Instagram user "subarudwayne" shot a photo of the new BRZ and posted it up during the 2020 Subaru Tecnica International Subiefest World Record Attempt & Charity Drive at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California on Oct 4.

The new BRZ was to have been showcased at the 2020 Los Angeles Auto Show, but the show had to be cancelled because of Covid-19.

There are rumours that the car is getting the Subaru FA24 2.4-litre flat-four engine with 217hp and 240Nm of torque, which is an upgrade to the current 2.0-litre at 205hp (152 kW) and 211Nm of torque.

The present BRZ and Toyota 86 are based on a modified Impreza platform. Word from the grapevine is that the new BRZ, along with its Toyota twin, could switch to Toyota's TNGA platform in order to retain the rear-wheel drive layout.

That is because moving forward, Subaru is adopting the new Subaru Global Platform that supports only all-wheel-drive vehicles.
