An SUV coupe just for China: Skoda unveils new Kamiq GT

PRAGUE: Skoda has turned the Kamiq into a coupe, albeit only for China, where the Czech VW subsidiary has unveiled a new spin-off of its compact crossover for one of the world's biggest SUV markets.

China's Kamiq may already be 15cm longer than its European counterpart, but the makers think it needed even more stretching to get the GT badge, which adds another 2cm.

The Kamiq GT, which only comes with one engine (a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 115hp), is Skoda's second SUV coupe after the similarly designed Kodiaq, two classes above.

While it would fit well into marque's portfolio in Europe or elsewhere, there's no word yet on an international launch.

As the car is being produced as part of a joint venture in China and the Czech production lines at home can barely keep up the output of their three SUVs, Skoda is ruling out additional market launches for the near future.
